I’m usually not one to do instant analysis, but I couldn’t resist this.
Several times during tonight’s debate, Donald Trump demonstrated one of his most common involuntary “tells.” Every time Kamala Harris said something that was about to make him short circuit, he used his patented trademarked smirk, which telegraphed the fact that he was about to go on an unhinged rant.
The most shining example is the studied closed-lipped grin intended to mask his inner rage:
You could tell that Kamala Harris got under his skin like an infestation of deer ticks. Literally every time he made this face (or some version of it), he went from being moderately rational to flying off the handle and angrily ranting and bouncing from one unrelated subject to another.
There were, of course, variations on the theme, such as the dejected Donald:
That looks like a glimmer of him tacitly acknowledging that Harris had left him defenseless by pinpointing a very specific flaw.
Then there’s the “get a load of this broad” look:
His only response when cornered by the prosecutor was to be even more demeaning toward her.
People will be dissecting this debate for weeks (and probably for years) to come. So I’m not going to try distill it any further than this until I’ve had a chance to digest things. But, suffice it to say, it certainly went better than the Biden/Trump debate.
If you need any proof of that, just rerun the tape and count how many times he was triggered.
Exactly like the ex and my Dad. With my Dad, only the smirk was ever seen because I never saw him confronted. Ever. Though my Mom told me that I was the only person that she ever saw confront my Dad. But I might have been too terrified to remember his face. This is so 100 % predictable, his responses. You nailed it totally. I do enjoy the omnipresent side by sides of the two candidates, and I use that term loosely, for one of them...
Thank you for your perfect presentation, and my mini-therapy session. (Perhaps substitute, "mouse", for the word, "mini-"?)
